Fight cancer or just surrender to it?
The memory is as vivid today as it was 10 years ago.
Standing right outside the door to my mom’s hospital room, the doctor said,” We have one more experimental drug, which may keep your mom alive.”
I thought about it for a moment then shook my head and said,” No.”
I briefly reflected on a conversation my mother and I had months ago where she told me she never wanted to undergo chemo again.
This was coming from a woman who was and still is, the strongest woman I’ve ever known!
It was in that moment, I knew my mother didn’t want to fight cancer anymore but surrender to it.
Two days after I refused the experimental medication, my mother was gone.
My life changed forever.
The Emotion Of Cancer
Matt Talford, author of “From Faith to Fear: A Survivor’s Story was “cooler than a fan” when he discovered he had cancer.
How?
Matt had faced all kinds of challenges in his life and looked at this as just another one to overcome.
Good attitude, right?
Unfortunately, this isn’t the norm.
When many people find out they have cancer, they shatter into a million pieces.
Those pieces are often made whole in the space of fear, worry, and anger.
Emotions can often be the catalyst for the “c” word.
Louise Hay, author of “You Can Heal Your Life” says,
‘“The mental thought patterns that cause the most dis-ease in the body are CRITICISM, ANGER, RESENTMENT and GUILT. For instance, criticism indulged in long enough will often lead to dis-eases such as arthritis. Anger turns into things that boil and burn and infect the body. Resentment long held festers and eats away at the self and ultimately can lead to tumors and cancer. Guilt always seeks punishment and leads to pain.”
Useless emotions rarely serve us; instead they become a hindrance to our healing.
Handed Health
While doing research a while ago, I came across an interesting article.
The article told of a woman who had undergone chemotherapy only to later find out she didn’t have cancer.
Her doctor made a mistake.
Doctors can and do make mistakes.
I’ve heard many stories of the wrong diagnosis and operating room blunders.
There are mistakes and then there’s fraud.
In 2014, Dr. Farid Fata was charged with 29 counts of fraud for falsely diagnosing patients with cancer and having them undergo chemo.
Why would a doctor want to intentionally diagnosis a person with cancer?
Cancer is big busine$$ and chemo isn’t cheap medicine.
The money is always in the medicine!
What can you do to protect yourself?
Matt Talford brings a point home I want to share.
He says, “Why is it that when it comes to our healthcare, so many of us simply smile and do whateeevvver the doctors tells us to; take whatever the doctor says take (and far too often against our gut instinct)? Why do we seldom (if at all) seek second or third opinions, or fail to do our homework?”
Whoa…long quote but spot on!
We continue to hand over our biggest asset and tell someone else to take care for it for us.
Would you give someone 8 billion dollars of your own money and tell them to take care of it for you?
Sounds ridiculous but people do this every day with their health,
It’s ok to trust but place the trust in yourself and knowing what’s right for you.
You can trust your inner guidance when you learn to surrender.
Surrender
We have a tendency to think of surrender in terms of war.
The fight was raged, we lost and now we come out with our hands up in a state of disgrace and feeling defeated.
Surrender really doesn’t have to be this disheartening.
It is more of an accepting.
Once you accept, you can act.
Accepting helps you work with the situation, not against it.
There is no relief in the fight.
The relief comes in the path of least resistance.
How many fights have we won lately?
The fight against obesity…still going.
The fight against diabetes…still going.
The fight against cancer…still going.
Am I telling you to give up?
No…what I’m saying is this:
You can’t fight against anything and think it will disappear.
It will only get bigger.
The relief and healing comes when you surrender and focus.
Focus brings the solution.
It is the solution we seek and not the fight.
Peace and Love,
