Hypocholesterolemia or low cholesterol can pose more risk than high cholesterol!
Yup, you read that right! I’ll repeat it.
Low cholesterol poses a greater threat to your health than high cholesterol does.
I know, sounds outrageous, huh?
We’ve been told to reduce our cholesterol by doctors, television, and health insurance companies.
Who’s right? Who’s wrong? Is someone playing tricks on us?
Allow me to shed some light in the dark for you and address the elephant in the room, but first…
Before I knew anything about cholesterol, I was brainwashed into thinking high “chole” was bad and low was good.
I ‘m a fairly intelligent dude but I fell for the “cholesterol con.”
I wasn’t the only one.
In an effort to maintain my health, I had yearly physicals and my doctor would advise me to get blood work.
I would call the lab and set up an early morning appointment to have my blood drawn before eating breakfast.
When the appointment day arrived, it seemed like it took hours for the nurse to call me so my blood could be drawn.
After it was all over, I would be scared sh–less waiting on the nurse to call with the results.
Guess what? My cholesterol always came back high!
I could only sigh and promise to stop eating my mom’s barbecue chicken.
I also avoided anything with fat in it like the plague.
Who wanted a heart attack? Not me.
Cholesterol Complexity
Cholesterol is important folks!
Your brain consumes 25% of the body’s total cholesterol.
What happens when you lower it?
Memory loss and cognitive decline!
Cholesterol is a boss!
Its needed for things such as:
- Hormone Synthesis
- Sex Hormones
- Nerve repair
- Bile production
- Vitamin D synthesis
Despite all these important things, it ‘s most important function is that of protection.
When the body encounters inflammation and infection, it sends out Chole to repair it.
Are you still thinking low cholesterol is the way to go?
The Irony Of Low Cholesterol
You’ve probably heard heart attacks and high cholesterol are cousins but this simply ain’t true.
In 2008,Tim Russert, host of Meet The Press, died of a massive heart attack at the age of 58.
If the hypothesis of elevated cholesterol = heart attacks holds true, then Mr. Russert’s cholesterol should’ve been off the charts, right?
It wasn’t.
His total cholesterol was a meager 105.
This isn’t a bizarre occurrence.
Most heart attack victims have “low” cholesterol.
How did they get it?
Statin Factin’
Cholesterol lowering drugs known as Statins are a billion dollar industry.
Statins and high cholesterol go hand in hand.
Doctors give them out like candy!
Lipitor, Crestor, and others make Big Pharma a ton of money.
Drug companies don’t want to lose these cash cows.
I know because I spent time in Big Pharma as a sales representative.
Being an insider, had its privileges.
I knew about issues with certain drugs months before the general public got wind if it.
For example, I heard about Lipitor’s potential to kill liver cells months in advance.
My doctor had the nerve to suggest Lipitor to me when I had “elevated”cholesterol.
I told him no thank you and ate oatmeal until it came out my ears.
Statins definitely lower cholesterol but who wants to lose their memory, battle constant fatigue, and joint pain?
Ain’t nobody got time for that!
I encourage you to learn more about your cholesterol.
