Two years ago, I had took a job to escape another job, I didn’t like. I was barely on the job two months when at the end of the work day, I got a call from human resources. I was told to come to the office for a quick chat.
I just signed up to get my health insurance and thought they had a question regarding it. I stepped into the office and to my surprise, my manager was standing there along with the HR person. They proceeded to tell me they had to let me go.
I gathered up my things and drove home devastated. I remember coming home and although I was extremely tired that night, I couldn’t sleep. Thoughts were racing through my mind and they continued racing for days then weeks.
Some nights I couldn’t fall asleep and other nights I’d fall asleep and wake up between [3:00]- 315 am. The silence of the house at that time of morning was deafening and I resisted what it had to tell me.
I went through the cycle of not being able to fall asleep or waking up during odd hours for a year. I slowly started to listen to what the silence had to tell me and once I did everything changed.
I don’t consider myself to be an insomniac but I know many, if not all of us battle with our sleep from time to time. On today’s episode We talk more about sleep and how to relieve insomnia with Dr.Maria Manzanares.
Who is Dr. Maria Manzanares?
Dr. Maria Manzanares was an Assistant Professor Of Radiology at the University Of Miami. She was diagnosing patients with cancer every day until one day, she had an epiphany.
Radiology offered a refined set of tools to treat and diagnose disease, but she not only wanted to diagnose, she also wanted to offer techniques for true healing.
Dr. Maria then embarked on a journey to study Integrative medicine where she would be able to offer different modalities to treat the whole human being. You can see more of Dr. Maria at Dharma Gaia Integrative Medicine
Inside The Episode
Dr. Maria and I became friends through a spiritual group I was attending for well over 4 years. I talk about the some principles I learned in the group as they relate to illness and well being from time to time on this blog and on my videos .
I’d be a complete liar if I said the group didn’t change my life and shattered all the beliefs I had about illness, medication, etc. It opened me up to another level of consciousness and I’m glad I made the decision to attend. Many of the principles both her and I learned are contained in this interview.
Most of what you’ll hear in the audio is simple stuff. It’s so simple, we forget to do it the majority of the time. We talk about a number of things in the interview which relate to mindset and how to change the mind without intricacies.
One thing that that struck me as profound during the interview was Dr. Manzanares’s willingness to stay out of the way as her clients discover their own journey to healing. She somehow knows she is an instrument to allow clients to align with their own well being.
Give this episode a few listens as it will enlighten as not to just insomnia but true wellbeing in general.
