Cheese. Glorious. Cheese!
We start our love affair with cheese early in our lives.
Who doesn’t remember their early obsession with mac- n- cheese or eating imitation cheese slices while watching cartoons?
After all, we were told it was good for us since it was part of the food pyramid’s dairy group.
Since dairy was recommended daily, it meant we could indulge in as much cheese as we liked without guilt.
Americans love cheese!
We put it burgers, toss it in pasta, sprinkle it over salads, and eat it with crackers.
Why would we question something so versatile and delicious ?
At the tender age of 25, my days of eating cheese and drinking milk abruptly came to a halt.
It was during this time, I realized my body could no longer digest cheese/milk and although I fought it, my digestive system told me enough was enough.
To drink a glass of milk would mean one of two things: I’d have to make sure a bathroom was nearby or pass out gas masks to those who might be brave enough to sit in a room with me after eating pizza.
I never questioned why I loved cheese.
Why did I seem to be addicted to the gooey deliciousness of melted cheese on top of a crust soaked in tomato sauce?
It took me a while to break my pizza habit and save my digestive system.
I thought I discovered gold when I found out there were cheese substitutes and gluten free pizza crusts. I could once again indulge in pizza without the digestive distress it use to cause.
Today, Dr. Neal Barnard and I discuss his book,“The Cheese Trap”. Pay attention as there are some things you may not know about cheese/dairy and the industry promoting it.

Inside The Episode
At one time, I was crazy about pizza. I could literally sit down and eat an X-large pizza by myself.
Later on, I figured out two things.
I was addicted to pizza because of the gluten within it and I was partly addicted to the gooey substance called cheese on it. They were a tandem I couldn’t seem to refuse.
I wanted to interview Dr. Barnard because intuitively I know those things which we tend to love when it comes to food are addictive.
I’ve also never interviewed anyone who was an advocate of a plant based diet. Dr. Barnard had some staunch views about what people should eat, saturated fat, and grassfed beef.
That’s ok! I always welcome different views on my podcast.
What would the world be if we all looked at everything the same?
I am a disseminator of information and believe it is up to the individual to make his or her own decisions. Listen to the podcast and do your own research. This is the way to making a conscious decision.
